Rebecca Caprara: From Blueprints to Bestsellers and Beyond| S5 EP233: Book Banter Podcast

Rebecca Caprara talks about finding her voice as an author, creating authentic characters, and bringing determination, resilience, and heart to Eva to the Max.

Hello My Happy People,

We have got another amazing author for you today! Sometimes an interview comes along because a publicist sends an email. Other times, it's because a book immediately makes me think, "I wish I'd had this when I was growing up!"

That was exactly how I felt when I first learned about Rebecca Caprara's Eva to the Max.

I grew up in a family of motorcycle riders. My parents both rode, my sister rode, and I got my very first motorcycle, a little Honda 50, when I was six years old. Like so many kids in the 1970s, I was fascinated by Evel Knievel and spent more than a few afternoons building makeshift ramps and attempting jumps that probably gave my parents second thoughts about getting me a helmet just like Evel's. I kept riding well into my twenties before life, but eventually my brain surgeries, brought that chapter of my life to a close.

When I came across Eva to the Max, I realized I had never seen a character like Eva in any books when I was a kid.

Girls who loved motorcycles simply weren't represented in books or even on TV until Pinky Tuscadero joined the cast of Happy Days. If Eva to the Max had existed when I was growing up, I have no doubt it would have found a permanent place on my bookshelf and been reread until it fell apart.

That is exactly why I wanted Rebecca on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt.

During our conversation, Rebecca explained how Eva to the Max became much more than a story about motocross. At its heart, it is a story about growth. Eva begins the novel focused almost entirely on winning, but gradually discovers that success isn't achieved alone. Behind every race is a team of people who support, encourage, and believe in her, and learning to recognize that support becomes just as important as crossing the finish line.

Rebecca also shared why she chose to write the novel in verse, something I found especially fascinating. For reluctant readers, opening a book filled with dense pages of text can feel overwhelming before they even read the first sentence. Novels in verse offer a different experience. The rhythm, pacing, and white space invite readers into the story in a way that often feels far less intimidating.

As I listened, I couldn't help thinking about another group of readers who might benefit from books like this: children learning English as a second language. We discussed how the lyrical structure, manageable passages, and vivid imagery seem like they could make stories like Eva to the Max especially approachable for young readers building confidence with English.

One of my favorite parts of our conversation, though, had nothing to do with motorcycles.

Rebecca openly talked about being the kind of creative person who constantly has ideas competing for her attention. As someone juggling books, a weekly podcast, a magazine, courses, merchandise, and far more projects than I probably should have going at once, I found that incredibly relatable.

There's something reassuring about hearing another successful creative admit that the artistic mind isn't always neat and organized. Sometimes the very qualities that make us feel scattered are also the ones that allow us to imagine new stories, solve problems in unexpected ways, and continue creating. I think many writers will recognize themselves in Rebecca's experiences, and they'll leave this interview feeling a little less alone.

Whether you're raising a young motocross fan, searching for books that better represent adventurous girls, looking for engaging reads for reluctant readers, or simply interested in hearing how one award-winning author approaches storytelling, this is an episode well worth your time.

Rebecca Caprara's passion for creating authentic, memorable stories shines through every minute of our conversation, and I have a feeling Eva to the Max will inspire many young readers to believe they belong wherever their dreams take them.

Online communication (ไซด์ไลน์) often begin with curiosity and a simple message. Over time, repeated conversations help people discover shared values, humor, and personality. This type of relationship can be especially meaningful for those who feel shy, lonely, or unable to meet others in person. Digital communication provides a safe space to open up and take things slowly. At the same time, it is important to remain aware of privacy, intentions, and emotional balance. A strong online relationship is not just about frequent texting, but about genuine care, attention, and respect.
