S5 EP237 | Cyndi Brec: Where Mythology,
Mystery, and History Collide
Hello My Happy People,
Today I am sharing my chat with an incredible author, Cyndi Brec. She describes herself as a storyteller and legend sleuth, and her Therans Trilogy brings mythology, history, archaeology, mystery, and romance together in a world inspired in part by a very real historic location. In this episode of Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt, Cyndi shares how the historic Keister Water Mill became woven into her fictional world, how she approaches writing with dyslexia, and why she considers herself a “pantser by design.”
Our conversation also took an unexpected turn when Cyndi revealed something about our history (hers and mine) that I knew absolutely nothing about. Apparently, this interview was more than two years in the making, and I didn’t even know it.
UPDATE: In regards to recent events, a tribute was added at the end of today’s podcast to honor Miss Dolly Parton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Miss Dolly’s Imagination Library.

Fall Break Episodes
I have been working like mad to turn this hobby into an actual business this year, and I NEED a break.
So, for the first few weeks of September, I am going to take that break. I have most things scheduled to publish on their own, but a few things cannot be scheduled. Seeing as how I do not want to have to even partially work during my break, below you will find the information for the episodes airing while I am stepping away from work.
Please note: The purple "click to listen" and "click to read" buttons
will not take you to these shows until the date shown.

S5 EP238 | Stacy Hawks: Unearthing an
Unsolved Murder in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Hello My Happy People,
Coming September 2nd on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt, award-winning author Stacy Hawks takes us into Dividing Ridge: The Unsolved Murder of Elva Brannock, inspired by the real 1937 murder of a 16-year-old girl in Alleghany County, North Carolina. But Elva’s story is just the beginning.
We head into the Blue Ridge Mountains, where the rest of The Ridge Series draws inspiration from local history, Appalachian traditions, and mysteries that have never been completely solved. Stacy’s books draw from real events and lingering questions from the region she calls home, using fiction to explore the various events when history stopped providing answers.
Listen to our interview to discover the stories behind Stacy’s books, then head over to the BTS blog for more from behind our conversation.

Free of Expectations to Find Her Own Path
Hello My Happy People,
Coming September 9th on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt, we step into the world of influencers and question what happens when the image you create for everyone else starts getting in the way of figuring out who you really are.
Award-winning author Krysten Lindsay Hager joins me to talk about When Stars Collide in the City, the third book in her Stars in the City series. Fake dating, social media, fame, friendships, romance, and the pressure to live up to other people's expectations all collide as her characters try to navigate growing up in a world where everyone seems to be watching.
There is plenty more to Krysten's story than what happens on the page. Listen to our interview, then check out the BTS blog for more about the author behind the series.

You Trust May Be Manipulating You

Lucy shares incredible insight into how she created her latest book The Model Patient, a historical psychological thriller set in early-1960s London. We talk about the troubling relationship between a young model and her psychoanalyst and explore questions of trust, manipulation, power, and what can happen when the person you trust to help you may be manipulating you.
