Reviews

I have read Stephen's books before. Amazing writer! Great stories even if you aren't into westerns, they hold your attention and make you want more! I highly recommend reading his books. You won't be disappointed.

This is a well-written and well-researched book. The plight of Connor and Lizzy had me on the edge of my seat. I could see their surroundings in my head and when Lizzy was beaten, I cried. This book is definitely a page-turner and I can't wait for the next instalment. I have a new favorite author--Stephen Burckhardt.

I just finished reading book one of "Into the West" and I am hooked! Stephen does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. The emotion I felt during parts of the story actually surprised me. I found myself tearing up several times and my heart ached for Elizabeth and Conner and I wanted to cheer for Mrs. Kelly for defending Elizabeth and for caring enough to find a way to get them to the train. I will be anxiously awaiting the next instalment and finding out what the deal between Mrs. Kelly and Sister Mary Clare is and how things turn out for the children.

This is an excellent continuation of 'Into the West: The Orphan Train'. I recommend this book and other books by Stephen Burckhardt. Even if you aren't into westerns this isn't the typical western cowboy, shoot-em-ups, it is about the lives of people during that time and how they struggle to get by and create lives in hard times. The characters are so well written they come to life in your mind and you laugh and cry right along with them. You feel their disappointments and take pleasure in their accomplishments and successes. Now I'm eagerly waiting for the next installment!

I broke my "only read the free Kindle books" for this Part 2, because I enjoyed the first part so much! The characters are well developed and I became invested enough in them that I wanted to see what happened next to them.
