Friday Funnies: Triskaidekaphobia Edition

Updated: Dec 15, 2019

Hello Posse,

I am sure many of you are wondering, What the heck is triskaidekaphobia? If you guessed that is an irrational fear of the number 13, you are right. I wanted to find out why Friday the 13th is considered to be unlucky so I turned to the internet.

There is some belief that it is based on the Christian last supper. Counting Jesus and his apostles, there were 13 people in attendance at the last supper and then Jesus was crucified the next day, a Friday. But fear of the number 13 goes beyond just Friday the 13th. Many buildings still to this day will avoid a 13th floor or a 13th room choosing instead to have a 12a or just skip from 12 to 14.

Fear of Friday the 13h was turned into a successful horror movie franchise:

  1. Friday the 13th May 9, 1980

  2. Friday the 13th Part 2 April 30, 1981

  3. Friday the 13th Part III August 13, 1982 and May 13, 1983 (re-release)

  4. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter April 13, 1984

  5. Friday the 13th: A New Beginning March 22, 1985

  6. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives August 1, 1986

  7. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood May 13, 1988

  8. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan July 28, 1989

  9. Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday August 13, 1993

  10. Jason X April 26, 2002

  11. Freddy vs. Jason August 15, 2003

  12. Friday the 13th February 13, 2009

Th original Friday the 13th movie had a budget of only $550K and had a worldwide box office gross of $59.75 million. Every movie in the franchise has been significantly lucrative for the studios involved. That seems pretty lucky all things considered, quite ironic when you think about it.

Now, you are probably wondering what bad luck and horror movies have to do with Friday "Funnies". Well, there happen to be quite a few Friday the 13th jokes. I do not promise they are especially funny jokes, but they do fall within the definition of the term "joke" so we can give some a try.

I hope you all have a wonderful and lucky Friday the 13th. Be sure to check your local listings for Friday the 13th movie marathons. Just be sure to follow the rules!
