Book Banter EP 86: Liz Shipton, Author & Pirate!

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

Hello My Happy People,

Have I got a great show for you today! As someone who was born on "Talk Like a Pirate Day", I am thrilled to get to chat with real life pirate, Liz Shipton. Liz is a part-time freelance writer and part-time indie author of a dystopian series loosely based on her life. She is also a full-time, off grid, live-aboard a sailboat sailor (a.k.a a pirate).

Liz is currently sailing around the world with her boyfriend and her dog. She uses her real-life adventures as they sail the high seas to fuel her imagination for writing her Sci-Fi/Fantasy books. Liz loves blending her amazing real-life adventures with her fictional realm to bring a feeling of believability to her stories. Their life on the boat is exciting and the places they visit, the people they meet, and the cultures they experience, all find a way into her work in some way.

Besides working to bring light to some under represented parts of the world (at least in science fiction), Liz also addresses some challenging social topics. She uses her writing to explore such issues as mental health, climate change, addiction and more.

When not writing her fictional series, Liz works as a freelance content writer specializing in articles on code, music theory, and off-grid living.
