Notice: Due to the massive redesign and creation of Burckhardt Books, some internal links in blogs posted before January 24, 2022 may no long be active. If you find a broken link, please send us an email and let us know which blog it is in. We will do our best to go back and check links in previous blogs as time permits. But let's be honest, it's going to be slow going.

Making Progress!

So, I think I know how I'm going to do this. I have been working on learning how to create audiobooks. Dianne has been working hard trying to perfect her Irish accent for voicing Margret. Though she says she will be happy if she can just not offend any Irish listeners with her attempt.

I have a store available to me here on my website that I had not used up until now. It turns out it is set up so I can sell my audiobooks straight from here and even allow for customers to listen to samples of the tracks. It's amazing what you learn when you actually check out the information on your web hosting site. I also accidentally upgraded to an eCommerce plan which I didn't need but, seeing as I have it for two years now, I'm going to see what I can do with it.

For now, I will just be able to take payments through paypal. I can set it up to take credit cards but I would have to pay a fee for that. I doubt I will make enough off of the audiobook sales at this point to make that worth the cost. Hopefully, in the future that will change but it is not financially feasible at this time.

I still have to decide what music track to buy for this serial. I had put up a poll on Facebook but I only had a few votes. I really wanted to get a few more opinions before I buy one so I'm going to hit up my writers group this week and let them be the deciding factor.

I won't be able to work on the audiobook too much this weekend because P.R. and I are going to go visit a friend for a few day. They live about a three hour drive from here. It will be my second time driving since we moved here about four and a half years ago. The first time was last weekend.

P.R. and I renting a car and went driving around for a few hours just so I could get used to it again before heading off on a road trip. It wasn't too bad but the traffic here is quite a bit heavier than in Wichita, Kansas. There are also a lot more pedestrians and bikes on the road. I'm glad most of this trip will be on the highway!

Just to keep you in the loop, you can check out a sample of the first practice recording for chapter one of Into the West: The Orphan Train on my new General Store page. This track will not be in the actual audiobook. It is just a practice track where we were trying out sound settings and studio setups. The final audiobook will be more polished and have consistent sound levels. We promise!

Please give it a listen and let us know what you think. We love constructive feedback!

Thanks for following me!

Stephen
