Whatever Wednesday: The Evening Edition

Writer: Stephen BurckhardtStephen Burckhardt

Hello, Posse!

Sorry this blog is coming out later than usual. It's actually a few minutes before 1 am Thursday morning here in Germany when I started writing this. I had planned to do this much earlier, but today just kind of got away from me.

My day started off late because I forgot to turn the sound back on on my tablet when I went to bed last night. I always play games on my iPad until I'm sleepy. I play with the sound off so I do not wake up Pedro, but when I forget to turn my sound back on, my morning alarm is silent. Why is that a thing on iPads? Why wouldn't an alarm play no matter what the sound setting is? That just seems odd to me. It's an old iPad so maybe newer models are different.

I will not bore you with a blow by blow of my day, but I had planned to spend my morning writing before I had to leave for a doctors appointment. That didn't happen because of the alarm issue. Then when I went out, I ran a few errands on my way as I walked to my doctors office only to find it closed. I can only assume I got the day wrong. So I lost a day of writing for nothing.

I have been stressing hard about a lot of things the last few weeks and today's mix up just hit me hard. I love living here in Germany, but sometimes when I am having issues with the language like today, it is stressful. Plus, I'm not making the headway on part seven, Into the West: Family Ties I had hoped I would have made by now. I'm starting to really worry that I will not be able to get it done in time for Christmas.

If I do not get some great writing done this week I may have to make some difficult decisions. I really do not want to push the book back, but if I do, I was thinking about just writing a Christmas side story that I would post for members at Christmas. There is a part of part seven that happens at Christmas which is why I wanted to get it done and out for December.

I am toying with the idea to just write that part up and give it out for Christmas as a short story and then expand on it in the actual book. But I do not have to decide until next week when I will hit a "point of no return" with this book. With this being the last book in this saga, I do not want to rush it. It has to be right because there will not be another book after it where I can "clean up" anything I forgot to put in this book. This story is too important to rush. I will be sure to keep you updated on what is happening.

I'm also trying to spend some time with my husband. With the holidays fast approaching, we are planning what we want to do for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. We are not going to be traveling so it will just be us again. We finally bought a Star Wars Advent calendar, we have talked about doing that for years. I am also making an advent calendar for Shaggy. He's allergic to beef and pork so the ones you can buy ready made for dogs all have something in it he can't have. So I'm making him one with his favorite treats. I hope to post the plans for this next week in case anyone wants to make their own. I hope you have been saving those TP and paper towel rolls if you want to make one too.

I'm also planning to surprise Pedro with colored tree lights that you can program to flash in patterns. We have always just had white lights on our tree (which is my preference). Every year he has said he wants colored lights (which I hate) and I manage to talk him out of it. However, this year when he mentions it, I plan to hand him a box with the new lights. I will hate it, but he has been so great letting me have the white lights all this time, I thought it was time he got his way. Seems only fair. Maybe after a few years of the colored lights we can start switching every year. We will see. He doesn't read my blogs so shhhhhh . . . don't tell him!

In the meantime, don't forget that books 1 to 6 in the Into the West Saga Serial are on sale now. If you haven't read them, what are you waiting for? Go to www.StephenBurckhardt.com/books to check out all the titles that are on sale now.

I think this is more than enough rambling for now. But just to help you prepare for next week, check out the videos below.

Have a great evening, Posse!
